Early Intervention

DESCRIPTION: Our Early Intervention Program is an intensive and comprehensive family support, counseling and referral program in which Catholic Charities works with local school districts in Wayne County to provide services to children in grades K-2 and their families.  In the fall of 2009, services were extended to pre-kindergarten children in the Macedon/Palmyra area.  Children exhibiting problematic behavior in school or at home receive assessment and counseling services designed to improve individual and family functioning and to prevent out-of-home placement.Counseling is provided in the home, at school or at our main office in Newark. After conducting the initial assessment, we utilize short and long-term counseling, play therapy, parent skills training, case management and other methods to enhance child behavior.

In appropriate circumstances, our counselors make referrals to physicians for medication evaluation. We also make referrals to other community resources as needed.Currently, Early Intervention Services are available in the Red Creek, Lyons, Pal-Mac districts and at St. Michael’s School in Newark.

STAFF: All counselors in the Early Intervention Program have at least a master’s degree and considerable experience in working with children and families. The EIP counselors are supervised by Inga Rojas, our Director of Clinical Services.

FUNDING: Funding for the Early Intervention Program is provided by United Way, the Bullis Fund (administered by the Rochester Area Community Foundation), school contracts and the Department of Social Services.
