FOOD PANTRY

Catholic Charities of Wayne County is now offering emergency food assistance to residents of Wayne County at its main office at 1141 East Union Street in Newark. The food pantry is open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Persons needing food assistance should present photo identification for self and identification for each individual in the household.  Except in special circumstances, assistance will be available once every 90 days.

FOOD SENSE

Food Sense is offered in the Newark area through a partnership between Catholic Charities and the Newark Rotary.  Catholic Charities handles the orders and paperwork.  Volunteers from Newark Rotary unload the food delivery truck and help distribute the food.

Food Sense is a way for your family to stretch your food budget by purchasing quality food at a discount!  There are no income requirements or quantity limits. The cost per unit is $15.50 and this includes 12 food items including fruits & vegetables, meats and grocery staples. There are “Monthly Specials” offered for an additional cost. If you are unable to pick up food due to age or disability, Newark Rotary may deliver to people that have a need for this service. Please call to determine eligibility.

Orders can be placed at Catholic Charities, 1141 East Union Street, Newark, Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m., and by noon sharp on the designated order deadline date. Cash, Money Orders, and Food Benefit Cards are accepted. We cannot accept checks.  Food orders will be distributed on a designated Thursday at the Newark American Legion, 200 East Union Street, Newark between 3:00-5:30p.m. The distribution site cannot hold any food packages after the scheduled pick-up date/time. Food not picked up will be considered a donation to our food pantry. There are no refunds or returns.
