Who We Are

Message from Executive Director

Welcome to Catholic Charities of Wayne County. We have been around since 2005, but we developed this website to help people in Wayne County become more familiar with our mission, our identity and our services.

We exist because Jesus challenged his followers to take care of the least of their brothers and sisters: the strangers, the hungry, the thirsty and others in need. Our mission is to serve ALL people of Wayne County with compassion, dignity and respect, having special emphasis on the poor and needy, and to advocate for social justice.

At Catholic Charities, we emphasize not only what we do but the way we do it. We want every person we serve to know that we love them, we care about them and we respect them. We want them to know that they are important to us simply because they exist. They are part of our human family. We are committed to bear their burdens as if they were our own.

As you will see, we offer a broad range of services, from counseling to food to clothing to residential services. While our home base is in Newark, we are active throughout the county, meeting our clients in many schools, churches and offices and in many homes all over Wayne County. Our services are funded by United Way, Bullis Fund (administered by the Rochester Area Community Foundation), Department of Social Services, Department of Probation, the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley, the Catholic Diocese of Rochester, and many other organizations, faith communities and individuals.

We are anxious to expand our services as resources permit. We are constantly assessing gaps in services to see if there is an important need in Wayne County that we can fill. If you are aware of a significant need that is not being adequately addressed, please give me a call or write me a note. We welcome your insights and suggestions.

Times are hard in Wayne County. There are many needs, but we have many strengths as well. The only way we can get through the current challenges is to come together with even greater commitment, greater unity and more creativity and wisdom. We are privileged to join with you to form a more caring environment for all of Wayne County.
